What you will do:

This position involves serving as the intermediary between the public and the South Dakota Motor Vehicle Division. As a Telephone Service Representative, you will engage with a diverse range of individuals to handle customer service inquiries via phone and live chat. Responsibilities include providing guidance to the public, dealers, and county staff on how laws and procedures apply to their specific situations, and outlining the processes needed for vehicle ownership and registration compliance. The position demands investigative skills, independent judgment, and making decisions based on reason. Successful applicants will receive training on relevant state laws and regulations. There are opportunities for career advancement within the Division.

What you need:

The ideal candidate will have or be able to:
  • experience in customer service;
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • problem solving efficiencies;
  • concisely provide information, explanations and instructions;
  • communicate information on laws, policies and procedures via telephone, email and Live Chat;
  • read and interpret information, laws and rules;
  • basic computer skills and excellent typing abilities;
  • organize work, set priorities and follow-up with minimal direction;
  • demonstrate respect, courtesy and tact when interacting with others;
  • obtain and provide information by phone in a clear and courteous manner;
  • maintain composure, efficiency, and a positive customer service attitude during busy periods with frequent interruptions;
  • exercise delegated authority to take action and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance;
  • independently recognize and define a problem, identify the resources available to help solve the problem, create and implement viable solutions and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties;
  • multi-task and manage multiple duties and projects;
  • ability to work with all types of people and personalities.
