POSITION SUMMARY

The Adult Services Therapist provides trauma-focused therapy for adult individuals who have been exposed to violence, abuse, or other forms of trauma. This role supports the mission and values of the organization by providing individual and group counseling to adults who are primary and/or secondary survivors of sexual, relational and family trauma. 

The Adult Services Therapist will maintain an outpatient therapy case load while designing and implementing effective, compassionate, and creative treatment/interventions reflective of the needs of the survivors.  The Adult Services Therapist works under the direction of a Clinical Services Supervisor and in collaboration with all other members of the Adult Services team in a multidisciplinary teams approach to provide trauma-responsive care, ensuring that individuals receive the necessary emotional and developmental support to heal from past trauma and reduce their risk of future victimization.

The ideal candidate is deeply knowledgeable in risk factors for victimization, crisis response, case management, and trauma-informed interventions and is passionate about helping individuals recover from violence, rebuild trust, and develop a foundation for lifelong healing and safety.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Trauma-Focused Therapy for Adults (80%)

  • Provide trauma-informed individual and/or group therapy for individuals over the age of 18 who have experienced violence, abuse, or neglect.
  • Conduct clinical assessments, develop treatment plans, and monitor client progress.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices, including EMDR, CBT, or other trauma-focused interventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive trauma-informed assessments, develop treatment plans, and monitor progress.

Collaboration & Team-Based Service Integration (5-10%)

  • Collaborate with Therapists, Advocates, and community supports to provide holistic, wraparound support for those impacted by violence.
  • Participate in weekly case consultations, clinical supervision, and professional development training focused on trauma recovery.
  • Provide specialized support for adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma.
  • Support community outreach efforts to expand awareness of risk factors of victimization and available therapeutic services.

Training & Crisis Intervention (5-10%)

  • Provide trauma-informed crisis interventions for individuals over the age of 18 utilizing walk-in services who have experienced violence, abuse, or neglect.
  • Respond to disclosures and discussion of interpersonal violence with professionalism and compassion both in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in trauma-informed practices.
  • The Adult Services Therapist will become a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.  Other areas of expertise and knowledge may be identified and pursued to meet client needs.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in topics of domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking, sexual abuse, etc.
  • Support the presence of survivors in community settings by modeling healthy boundaries, self-care and skills of emotional regulation; maintaining personal boundaries in the community and on social media that consistently affirm confidentiality, healthy relationships and TCC values.

Administrative (5%)

  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in compliance with agency and funding requirements.
  • Strictly adhere to agency confidentiality and safety protocols.
  • Adhere to all agency protocols and policies regarding services to clients
  • Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the clinical program and assist in developing and implementing new program services and assisting with outreach and communication.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Clinical Services Supervisor and/or Director of Adult Services.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education & Licensure
    • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
    • Licensed or license-eligible or actively pursuing licensure (LPC, LPC-MH, LCSW, LCSW-PIP, LMFT, or equivalent) in South Dakota.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of one year of experience working with individuals in a clinical or therapeutic setting.
    • Experience with trauma-informed therapy.
    • Knowledge of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and the impact of early exposure to violence and trauma.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Specialized training in TF-CBT, EMDR, crisis intervention, or other evidence-based modalities for trauma treatment.
  • Experience working in advocacy, family services, or trauma-informed programs.
  • Familiarity with crime victim compensation funding, survivor support services, and community services.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in an extremely busy professional office. Requires regular interaction with professionals in a fast paced, trauma-informed environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Regularly required to speak and hear to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or reach for items.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, read materials, and operate a computer.
  • Occasionally required to lift office products or supplies weighing up to twenty pounds.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a full-time, exempt position with a 36-hour core workweek. Some flexibility in scheduling based on client and program needs.

TRAVEL

Occasional travel, mostly within Sioux Falls.  May travel overnight to attend conferences or training.
