Virtual Design Technician

Job Description

Position Overview:

The Virtual Design Technician (VDT) position includes the daily tasks listed below as it relates to both Virtual Design Construction (via current software and solutions in the market) along with Office-to-Field implementation and use of Total Station and virtual design building processes. Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

1. Electrical Design Modeling (currently using AutoDesk products with main focus on Revit) 
2. Electrical Design Drafting (currently using AutoDesk products with main focus AutoCAD)
3. Electrical Modeling clash detection process 
4. Communicating with customers, design partners and able to work on multiple projects going on at the same time 
5. Site visits to jobsites with purpose of:
   • Determining a scope of work to change/ revise and or create electrical design documents under direct supervision of design staff 
   • Work with field electricians to use Total Station and Digital Models to layout on-site for installation per project specifications and drawings (contract documents)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

• Organization and scheduling 

• Ability to communicate effectively 

• Strong technical computer skills including proficiency in the following programs/program types: 

  • AutoDesk Suite Products including but not limited to:

    • Revit

    • AutoCAD MEP

    • AutoCAD

    • Navis Works 

    • Revu BlueBeam

    • Total Station 

    • Trimble Products including: 

      • Total Station setup and use from office point creation to field point layout 

      • Field point saving for as-built of installation 

      • File MGMT programs

      • Microsoft Office 365 platform (Outlook, Word and Excel, one drive, SharePoint… and more)

      • Microsoft Teams 

      • Revu Bluebeam (.pdf editor and creation program)

• Familiar with and basic understanding of construction contract documents

• General understanding of construction building materials and methods 

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team 

• Knowledge of safety requirements applicable to the trade

   

Qualifications:

• Education: A 2-year tech school Associates degree or 4-year Bachelor degree in Construction Management, Project Management with specific emphasis on virtual design.  Examples of degrees or emphasis as part of a degree may include but not limited to the following:
  • Construction Modeling  
  • Virtual Design Construction 
  • BIM
  • Building Design and Construction MGMT
• Experience: Electrical license is NOT required however industry experience and construction management experience is preferred.   
• US Citizen and valid driver license 

• This position is subject to background checks, DMV checks and random drug testing.

***note electrical past experience is not required (but is encouraged) as this position will be directly under design staff who will communicate the direct design intent of a project and technical aspects as it relates to that project****
